Lindenhurst Memorial Library

Local History Collection

The Library has developed a special Local History Collection, focusing on the history of Lindenhurst, Lindenhurst Village, and the larger Town of Babylon.  The collection features books, photos, postcards, newspaper clippings and personal memories of current and former residents.

Do you have pieces of Lindenhurst History at your home? We are asking anyone with photos or postcards from early Lindenhurst to share them in this collection. All items can be scanned and added to our digital collection and the originals will be returned.  If you are interested in participating in this ongoing project, please contact us at

Community Journal Project

Become a part of Lindenhurst history by participating in our Community Journal Project! This project is a collection of journals and sketchbooks for adults, teens, children, and families of the Lindenhurst Memorial Library to write about their life experiences, express their creativity, and share their stories with the Lindenhurst community.

Our Shared Story

The Lindenhurst Memorial Library is interested in the memories and stories of any current or former resident of the Village of Lindenhurst for a new oral history project we are starting.  Anecdotes will be permanently collected via brief video or audio recordings with a staff member for “Our Shared Story”, to be featured on the Library website.  If you or a friend, relative or neighbor are interested in participating in this exciting project, please contact us at

Lindenhurst Star: Digital Archive

The Lindenhurst Star, published between 1927 and 1958 focused on the daily life of Lindenhurst and its residents. Included in this publication are news stories, birth and death announcements, and local features that depicted the current events around town. The Lindenhurst Memorial Library is the only known archive of The Lindenhurst Star. Thanks to a grant, we digitized our archive to provide unprecedented access to this slice of Lindenhurst history.
