Our plans were officially approved by New York State, and a building permit was issued. Staff are preparing the building site to become an active construction zone this summer! It is anticipated that bids will be awarded at the beginning of June, with physical construction to commence in July.
A complete inventory of the collection has been completed by our staff. This allowed us to clean up the library’s catalog and ensure that our records are up-to-date before staff begin packing the collection. Customer Service staff were trained to add a radio frequency identification (RFID) system to the entire collection. This will take place while most materials are in storage during construction, allowing us to tag and update our holdings, so it doesn’t have to be done after the complete physical building project.
The Board of Trustees and Library Administration are working with local organizations, the Village and Babylon Town, to secure spaces to host outdoor programs and some library services this summer. For example, our popular summer concert series is returning on Tuesday evenings and will be held at the Village Gazebo in partnership with the Village of Lindenhurst.
