FAQs for Community Service Hours

Do I need a library card to register for community service?

Yes, you do need a library card to register for programs. Find out how to apply for a library card here

After I participate in a community service program, how do I get documentation of my community service credit hours?

After you participate in a community service program you will receive a letter with your name, the date, the program name and the number of hours earned at the program.

How quickly will I get my community service letter?

For an in person program you will receive your letter at the end of the program. For a virtual program you will receive a letter in the mail after the completion of service; we will send an e-mail letting you know the letter is on it's way. We strive to get the letter to you within 3 days; but it can take up to a week depending on the postal service.

Can I get handwritten signatures on my organization’s log for community service programs I participated in at The Library?

Yes!  To get signatures, you just need to bring in your log, and the corresponding community service letters issued at the community service program you participated in.  You can ask for signatures at the Teen Desk.  Any librarian will sign your community service log as long as you bring your community service letters

What happens if I lose my community service letter?

If you have lost your community service letter contact Ms. Rosalia at communityservice@lindenhurstlibrary.org with your name, the date and name of the program you attended and we can attempt to replace it.
