Library Lovers, We Need Your Help!

The future of our nation's libraries is at risk. A new push to dismantle federal library funding threatens essential resources, programs, and services that millions rely on. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)—the only federal agency supporting libraries nationwide—could be eliminated. The NYS Library relies on $8.1 million in federal funding from IMLS through its Grants to States Program. This funding is crucial for supporting NY libraries. The anticipated loss of this funding will severely undermine the NYS Library and jeopardize essential services for communities across the state.

Why does this matter?

IMLS funding, a tiny fraction of the federal budget, fuels literacy programs, public internet access, job training, and so much more. More than 1.2 billion visits are made to libraries annually, (in Lindenhurst, 176,897 people used the library last year!) impacting students, families, and communities. Without this funding, many libraries in the country could lose vital programs or even shut their doors.

Take Action NOW!

Your voice CAN make a difference. We call on everyone who values reading and learning to reach out to their elected leaders and tell them:

LIBRARIES MATTER! Demand they protect IMLS and federal library funding.

FEDERAL - Demand that Congress act to defend IMLS now!

New Yorkers - STATE - Ask our legislators to protect NYS libraries by increasing funding.
