The Lindenhurst Historical Society is pleased to announce Historical Society Life Time Members Vera and Ed “Skip” Meinhold as the Tree Lighters for the 76th Annual Tree Lighting!

For the past 76 years, Lindenhurst Historical Society Tree-Lighters have been selected in appreciation and recognition of their tireless efforts on behalf of the Lindenhurst Historical Society. This year’s honorees’ epitomize that principle. Vera was born and raised in Lindenhurst. Vera and Skip, married for fifty years continue to call Lindenhurst their home. Their son and his family live abroad but they return to Lindenhurst each summer to spend time here. Both retired educators, Vera and Skip have devoted numerous hours to a variety of volunteer initiatives, but the Lindenhurst Historical Society has benefitted most from their unwavering support and countless volunteer hours. Skip, A Vietnam War Veteran, has been the Site Manager for the 1901 Lindenhurst Restored Long Island Rail Road Depot and Freight House Museum at Irmisch Park since 2010. Skip and his team bring Lindenhurst railroad history to life for residents and visitors to the museum each season. Vera has served the Lindenhurst Historical Society as an officer for more than 17 years, the first 16 as the Society’s Executive Treasurer and currently as its Membership Chairperson. 

Both Vera and Skip can be always be found filling innumerable roles as fund-raisers and advocates for the Society, tirelessly helping at events and promoting the Society, it’s museums and the Historical Society’s mission to preserve and celebrate Lindenhurst history.
